In this course, we were not only taught how to use the software Glyphs, but were also guided by the trained eye of three skilled typographers. The goal was to create a functional font in two styles. The result was a variable font designed for the hotel and hospitality industry. Additionally, the font was customized with various special symbols commonly used in the industry to cater to a potential client's needs.
To complete the project, we had to design a print medium to present our font to potential customers. This is where this leporello comes into play. It is 1890 x 297 mm in size and can also be used as a poster for typography enthusiasts.
I started with some early sketches and trials to determine what would best suit the hotel client I wanted to target with this typeface. My goal was to create a luxurious typeface with a modern feel that would complement the world of accommodations and comfort. I chose the hospitality industry as my first client because my initial exposure to typography involved designing headlines for flyers in the style of the logo of the hotel where I worked. At that time, I unknowingly took my first steps in type design.
